Preparations for Coventry City's Retro Day are in full swing ahead of Doncaster's trip to the Ricoh Arena

20 March 2015

Fans are being encouraged to wear their retro shirts from yesteryear as the club celebrates it's past against Doncaster Rovers...

Preparations for the Sky Blues' first Retro Day on Saturday are in full swing, with a number of nostalgic touches ready for the game against Doncaster while we encourage fans to wear their retro shirts and scarves as welcome the legends of yesteryear.

From 1:30pm, the PA at the Ricoh Arena will be taken over by some 'classic' songs, as up until 2:45pm we play only songs that were in the UK Chart Top 100 on the 16th May 1987 - the day Coventry City won the FA Cup against Tottenham.

Sky Blues supporters can expect tracks from the likes of the U2, Cutting Crew, The Smiths, The Cure, The Cult... and even Spurs' Glenn Hoddle & Chris Waddle, who reached number 23 with their song Diamond Lights. We'll of course be playing Go For It by the 87 squad (number 77) - and conclude with the number 1, which many fans will associate with the famous cup victory...

In the Family Zone, volunteers will have their retro shirts and we'll be running a CCFC History quiz where young fans could win a football signed by the current squad. There'll also be the usual arts & crafts, music, Playstations and more, plus the CCFC retail outlet in the Family Zone will also have retro shirts available and the 1987 FA Cup final DVD.

Matchday programme PUSB has a very special Retro Day cover, featuring Steve Ogrizovic- who is the focus of our feature with an extensive Q & A with the Sky Blues' record appearance holder and current goalkeeping coach. Also inside are our usual features, plus historian Jim Brown looks at the former players who join us on Saturday and some of Coventry City's past kits. The programme will be available around the ground and from the CCFC Superstore.

On top of all this, we have a retro scoreboard for the day, players from the 1963/64 Division Three championship winning team joining with local school children to form a very special guard of honour for the two teams, and much more.

Finally to keep with tradition at half-time, all our former players will be welcomed on to the pitch to say hello to the Sky Blues fans and take part in a special group photo.

To get your tickets for the Retro Day in advance, you can visit the CCFC Superstore, www.ccfcshop.co.uk or call 02476992332/02476992326. Tickets are also available on the day on Saturday: from 9:30am at the Matchday Ticket Office at the Ricoh Arena or Cash Turnstiles 28,29,30 & 31 from 1:30pm.
