Defender Reda Johnson completes deal with Coventry City

Sky Blues wrap up third permanent summer signing with arrival of former Sheffield Wednesday defender Reda Johnson

Coventry City have completed the signing of defender Reda Johnson on a one-year deal with a negotiation clause for a further year.

The 26-year-old, who can play both centre-half and left-back, joins the Sky Blues after leaving Championship side Sheffield Wednesday at the end of his contract.

Johnson also holds ten international caps for Benin, making his first professional appearance for French club Amiens in 2007 before making the switch to then Championship side Plymouth Argyle in 2009.

He made 42 appearances and scored two goals for the Pilgrims over two years at Home Park before switching to Wednesday on a three-year deal in the summer of 2011.

Over his three-year spell with the Owls he notched up 75 appearances and 18 goals, helping the club to promotion from League One into the Championship in his first season.

Coventry City boss Steven Pressley says he is delighted with his latest summer acquisition and is looking forward to the influence the 'imposing' defender will bring to the Sky Blues.

"Reda is a big, strong, physical centre-half with an imposing presence that also carries a goal threat so I'm delighted he has decided to join us," Pressley said.

"League One is very difficult one to get out of but Reda has experience of doing just that. He knows the division and he knows what it takes to be successful in it.

"He also brings a level of experience that our younger players can benefit from. He leads from the front, he puts his body on the line and he's a person that can have a positive influence in the dressing room."
