The former Sheffield Wednesday defender hopes to improve as a defender whilst with the Sky Blues...

Coventry City's new signing Reda Johnson has claimed manager Steven Pressley was a major factor in signing for the Sky Blues.

The former Sheffield Wednesday man signed a one-year deal with the club, with a negotiation clause for a further year.

The 26-year old left the Owls at the end of the last season having made 21 appearances for Wednesday last season, scoring three goals.

The Benin international can play at either left-back or centre-back and he hopes to be able to get some valuable game-time whilst with the Sky Blues.

Johnson said: "I'm delighted to get the deal done because it's a huge club. I'm really happy to be here.

"I'm looking forward to playing games for the club. I will always try my best to help the team and make sure I'm at my best every time I play.

"It is a young team here and I'm here so there is more experience in the side. There are some really good young players here and I've been really impressed with what I've seen so far.

"I don't have a best position. I can play left-back or centre-back but I will play wherever the manager wants me to play."

The defender has an impressive goal-scoring record from defence, having scored 18 league goals in 75 appearances for Sheffield Wednesday.

Johnson hopes to improve his defensive skills under Sky Blues boss Steven Pressley and also contribute with goals.

He added: "I'm looking forward to working under Steven Pressley as he was a defender. It was a big motivation for me to come here.

"I'm sure I can work with him and get better. He can pass on his experience to me and hopefully I'll improve as a player.

"I've played centre-back since I was young but I've played left-back for the last two years so the manager can choose where he wants to play me.

"I've scored a few times for Sheffield Wednesday and hopefully I can bring that to my game here. I'm just looking forward to getting started."
