"I'm happy to score two goals on my debut but frustrated with the result." - Coventry City's Reda Johnson

The City captain believes the Sky Blues need to learn from the mistakes for the Cardiff City game on Wednesday...

Coventry City captain Reda Johnson was happy to score on his City debut but frustrated with the 3-2 defeat to Bradford City on the opening day of the 2014/15 League One season.

James Hanson put the Bantams ahead just before the half-hour mark but Johnson headed home from Danny Pugh's corner in the 41st minute to put City level at the break.

Alan Sheehan netted from the penalty spot early in the second half before Johnson once again benefited from a Danny Pugh cross to score in the 89th minute.

Johnson's goal looked to have secured a point for City but Hanson notched a brace in added time for Bradford City and Johnson was disappointed with the manner of defeat.

The City captain said: "It was a difficult defeat to take. We lost the game in the final minute and that is always difficult to take.

"I was happy with my two goals and I think the crosses from Danny Pugh today was brilliant as he set up both goals.

"I thought we deserved the point. We did really well to fight back twice from behind and we were patient with the way we played.

"When you score late on like we did, you shouldn't lose the game and that has to be something we look at."

Mike Dean awarded Bradford City a penalty when Johnson was adjudged to have held Bantams striker Hanson early in the second half.

He added: "To see us concede a similar goal to the first wasn't good because it was another header from Hanson.

"I think we played well in the second half even though we went behind. We didn't give them many chances.

"The atmosphere was brilliant. We must thank all the fans who travelled up for their support. They kept us going in the second half and drove us on for the equaliser.

"We know what mistakes we made today so we've got to make sure we work on them and come back stronger on Wednesday."
