'Resilience was incredible' - Pressley

Steven Pressley praises his side's character after the 1-0 win over Hartlepool...

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley praised his side's resilience after claiming his first home win as Sky Blues boss.

Pressley's side recorded their third win in five games as Cody McDonald's first-half strike sealed the 1-0 victory over Hartlepool United at the Ricoh Arena.

The Scot has now enjoyed an unbeaten start with City, claiming two wins and one draw, with a trip to Portsmouth next for the Sky Blues.

Pressley was impressed by his side's clean sheet and hopes they can carry that resilience through the last seven games of the season.

The City boss said: "The first thing to take out of the game is we have got our first home win for two months and that gets that record off our backs now.

"But for me the most pleasing thing about the game, considering that was our third game within the week, was our character and our resilience.

"I don't think we really gave up a single chance in the entire 90 minutes and the defence were brilliant today.

"We may have only won 1-0 but we always seemed comfortable and were able to see it through in the final stages.

"To beat a side who had only suffered one defeat in their last ten matches, regardless of where they are in the league, shows we have claimed points where others haven't."

City sit just three points off the play-off positions with the win, and just five points away from the automatic promotion spots.

He added: "It is going to be a tight end to the season as no-one has really pulled away. We need to make sure we are performing well on the both sides of the game.

"I think everyone had to adjust to the conditions as well today and where we failed on Tuesday, we succeeded today in keeping a clean sheet.

"We have six weeks left in the season and it is going to be difficult to see the way I want them to play shining through.

"We will have a good week on the training pitch and work on a couple of things to make sure we are ready to go again against Portsmouth."
