The first-team coach has praised City's latest signing as the squad continues to prepare for the 2015/16 season...

Coventry City first-team coach Jamie Clapham has backed new loan signing Adam Armstrong to be a success, after speaking to the Coventry Telegraph.

The 18-year old striker joined in his first full City training session after sealing his loan move from Newcastle United this week.

Armstrong is expected to be involved on Saturday when City travel to Nuneaton Town to play League Two side Oxford United, with kick-off at 3pm.

Clapham, who managed the Coventry City XI at Leamington last night, believes Armstrong has fantastic potential.

Clapham said: “He’s only an 18-year-old but when you look at him he’s not a teenager, he’s a man desperately trying to get out of what he is.

“He’s Under-18/19 in age but he’s physically strong, powerful and a really quick and pretty dynamic player. Let’s hope he’s a real gem.”
