PRESS WATCH: "We can't build our team on the back of hope, we've got to sign our own players." - Tony Mowbray

The Sky Blues has admitted that signings and transfer activities take time but says players will be signed...

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray has told the Coventry Telegraph that he will be signing permanent deals ahead of the 2015/16 season.

The Sky Blues found out this morning that they face a tough start to the season with Wigan Athletic at the Ricoh Arena on the opening day followed by a trip to Millwall.

City are yet to make a new signing for the upcoming season with the Sky Blues boss preparing his future squad in fine detail.

Mowbray said: “I can’t just sit here and wait to get players on loan.

"I think we have to try to sign some of our own players and then if, somewhere down the line, the loan players come and we feel they can get in front of the ones we sign then so be it, but we can’t try to build our team on the back of hope.

“It’s not frustration but it’s a case of these things take time and you keep talking to the clubs because the managers reach a stage where they say they are not going to play the kids because the first team players are ready to start playing 90 minutes."
