City's man between the sticks reveals the disappointment of the away trip to Donny, while looking at the positives from a much improved Sky Blues season...
Coventry City’s Reice Charles-Cook has been in fine form throughout the 2015/16 season and is widely considered as one of the Sky Blues most consistent performers.
Off the back of a ‘Player of the Season’ nomination, Charles-Cook has revealed he is delighted by the progress he has made under goalkeeping coach Steve Ogrizovic.
Charles-Cook has cemented himself as the Sky Blues number one this season, with a record of 13 clean sheets in 37 appearances and a run of five consecutive clean sheets in October ’15.
The 22-year old gave his assessment of the disappointing 2-0 defeat to Doncaster last weekend: “It wasn’t like us, it was probably our most flat performance of the season. Saturday we aim to put that right, put it behind us.
“It’s not holiday time yet, we’ve still got two games to play. We aim to win those two games.
“It has been a tough week before, some of the boys looked a bit leggy. We had fans travelling a long way and the performance wasn’t acceptable.”
The Sky Blues have the potential to finish as high as eighth in the table if they take maximum points from the two remaining League One fixtures against Sheffield United and Oldham.
A top half of the table finish would represent a marked improvement from last season’s campaign, where the Sky Blues narrowly escaped the drop on the final day of the season.
Charles-Cook added: “To be in the position we are now, compared to last year where we had to keep looking over our shoulders. Looking at the table and hoping other teams would lose.
“It’s been a major improvement, and yet it should have been a lot better. It’s been a positive season overall, but a disappointing one as well. It's tough to take, but that's football and hopefully next year it will be better for us."
The goalkeeper reviewed his personal season: “It’s been a crazy year, I am glad I have got the Gaffer’s trust and he believed in me.
“I can’t put it in to words. It’s been unbelievable. When I came in July I said I’d be bigger and better, next year the hope is to go on and get promotion.
“Oggy keeps us very level headed. The unbeaten run was a great thing to be a part of and the save against Port Vale away is something I’ll remember.”
