'The players gave everything' - Pressley

21 April 2014

The City boss has also reiterated that survival in League One is a fantastic achievement...

Coventry City manager Steven Pressley was proud of his players efforts after the 0-0 draw against Oldham Athletic at Boundary Park.

Both sides had chances to win the game with John Fleck bursting through the Latics defence with ten minutes remaining, but his low effort was saved by Oldham keeper Paul Rachubka.

The result means the Sky Blues now sit in 17th position in League One, four points from the relegation zone with two games remaining.

Having seen his City side keep a clean sheet in Greater Manchester, the City boss believes the Sky Blues left everything on the pitch.

Pressley said: "We always knew it was going to be a very difficult game and so it proved. They have now gone seven games unbeaten which shows how good their form is.

"I think my players have put an incredible amount of effort into the performance today. It wasn't one for the purists and it wasn't a performance we were producing at the start of the season but it is a valuable point.

"We had chances in the second half and arguably, John Fleck could have won it for us. I think both sets of players should be given credit for the effort put in today.

"I can accept that style of performance when we get a point out of it. I think having a settled defence has definitely helped us in the last few games."

Having received a ten-point deduction at the start of the season, the City boss still believes it would be 'an incredible achievement' to stay up in League One.

He added: "I said quite a lot after the loss against Swindon about my players but I did it to get a reaction. Ultimately, everything which happens at the club is my responsibility.

"Whatever the players do on the pitch is my responsibility. I have said it before but I think if we can stay up, it would be an incredible achievement.

"We had the ten point deduction at the start of the season but we went on a great run which seemed to raise expectations.

"The focus has always been on staying in the division and today was a great point towards that."
