Coventry City's U21s deliver another strong performance as they stave off the threat of table topping Huddersfield to claim a point...

Coventry City’s U21s finished their season strongly as they extended their run of unbeaten games to five with a 1-1 draw against Huddersfield.

Their final fixture of the season was played at the Ricoh Arena and saw the Sky Blue youngsters go 1-0 up courtesy of a wonder strike by Vladimir Gadzhev.

Huddersfield Town, who are Development League champions, found reply before half-time but the Sky Blues held their nerve to take a point off the league’s top side.

Glover said: “It’s a great point. Before Christmas, we’d have gone under against a side like that. But the lads have shown a bit of resolve and discipline and a lot of commitment to stay in the game.

“We had chances to go on and nick it, so a vast improvement over the past 6 months. We started improving but I still wasn’t seeing results, now in to April we have picked up momentum. Ruthless finishing, putting sides to the sword.

“It’s taken a while in coming, but the lads have started to apply themselves better and finished the season strongly.”

As well as taking a point from the game, Sky Blues fullback Jordan Willis gave another strong performance in defence as he continues to make a comeback from a lengthy period on the sideline.

Two knee injuries have prevented Willis from playing competitively since August ’15, but the 21-year old gave a mature 80 minutes in defence today and handled the physicality of Huddersfield extremely well.

Similarly, Cian Harries was another bright performer in the City backline and Glover commented on the progress of the centre-half.

He added: “Four or five key players were out with injury early on, but you have to push on.

“I gave Cian [Harries] a personal development plan, he’s got attributes. We’ve had him skipping in the morning and heading in the afternoon. He’s taken on what we’ve said and worked hard on it.

“Jack [Finch] and Cian have an understanding and partnership. We’ll talk to the lads about what they need to be doing over the summer and put a strategy in place for where we want them to be individually by the start of next season.”
