'That result really hurt' - Clarke

12 January 2014

Jordan Clarke has also praised the work of Jordan Willis who continues to impress in the first team...

Coventry City defender Jordan Clarke was disappointed after the 2-2 draw with Crawley Town.

Mat Sadler inadvertently opened the scoring for the Sky Blues with an own goal header at the back post from a City corner after 40 minutes to give the home side a well-earned advantage in a first 45 minutes that they dominated.

An Andy Webster header made it 2-0 with ten minutes to go but two quickfire replies from Red Devils substitute Jamie Proctor rescued a point for John Gregory's side.

Clarke came back into the side after recovering from injury and played up front with Leon Clarke and Callum Wilson currently out through injury.

The City Academy graduate was disappointed with the result but enjoyed the experience of playing up front.

Clarke said: "I saw the team yesterday before training and was trying to work out the system myself. I had to ask Neil (MacFarlane) in the end and ask if I was up front.

"It was a nice surprise. I haven't played up front for a very long time. I used to play there when I was really young. Obviously, I haven't trained in the last three weeks so it was difficult towards the end.

"We should be winning them games. That result hurt. We need to make sure we are getting all the points because when you go 2-0 up late on, the three points should be in the bag."

Jordan Willis continued his run in the side next to Andy Webster in defence after starting both victories over Rotherham and Barnsley in the FA Cup.

Clarke has praised Willis for the hard work he has put in and believes the competition will only have a positive effect.

He added: "It has been good to see Jordan (Willis) play so well as he had a few injuries this season but has come back from them well.

"He has a great attitude and always applies himself in training which is great to see from a young lad.

"The competition can only be for the good of the team and our progression as footballers, so I think his form has been great and I will have to raise your game to get back in that position."
