Coventry City defender Peter Ramage, who joined the club in the January transfer window, has highlighted the desire of the players to reach the next tier of the Football League.
The Sky Blues currently lie fifth in Sky Bet League One, after conceding two successive defeats for the first time in the 2015/16 campaign.
Coventry are set to entertain Scunthorpe United in Saturday’s league fixture and the 32-year old defender spoke of the need to remain positive:
“I think anybody would say that we are still in a fantastic position and we should be expecting to win games. It’s a big football club, with ambition to get to the next level.
“We were looking to stay within touching distance of the top two. It’s all about having a bit of determination now to put a little run together.”
Ramage also spoke of the important role the more experienced players have on the younger members of the squad.
He added: “It’s a young group but it’s a professional group. The boys work hard day in day out, no matter what the result was at the weekend.
“It’s our responsibility to keep telling these young players to keep expressing themselves. Go out with a smile on your face and don’t be scared to try things – embrace their career.”
The Sky Blues will be looking to get back to winning ways in Saturday’s clash with the Iron and continue a strong home record at the Ricoh Arena.
The ex-Crystal Palace man is mindful of the need to pick up points as the Sky Blues attempt to stay in touch with league leaders Burton Albion.
He finished by saying: “It will be a big test for us; we have to go out with the right mindset to get the three points.
“It’s a compliment to the way the boys have been playing that teams have parked the bus against us.
“We’re a tight knit group and that’s been really settling for myself. Hopefully we can take that unity on the pitch and close some results.”
