NEWS: SBitC walking football sessions will be showcased during half-time at the Bradford City game tonight

19 April 2016

The InForm project has worked with over 1,400 men through free weekly football sessions in the Coventry and Warwickshire area...

At half time against Bradford City, players from the Sky Blues in the Community Walking Football sessions will be taking to the pitch to demonstrate a slower-paced version of the beautiful game.

The Community team currently run two walking football sessions each week – one in Coventry and one in Bedworth, with plans to expand and deliver additional sessions in Nuneaton and Leamington.

The walking football forms part of the ‘InForm’ project, funded by the Big Lottery and providing physical activity for men, alongside health information and advice.

Now in its third year, the InForm project has worked with over 1,400 men through free weekly football sessions and the community team organising and attending events to promote the scheme. The Walking Football sessions are particularly popular, with over 40 men (and women) regularly attending the sessions.

Walking football targets those aged 50 and over, with the current sessions taking place at St Finbarr’s Sports and Social Club on Thursday mornings from 10.30am until 12pm. The session in Bedworth is on Tuesday mornings at Bedworth United Oval, also from 10.30am to 12pm. It costs £3 each week to attend, with tea and cake thrown in too.
