'Proud to represent my City' - Thomas

Coventry City midfielder Conor Thomas confessed he has 'never enjoyed football this much' after signing a new deal which keeps him at the club until 2016.

The 20-year-old penned an extension to his current contract which sees him commit his future to the Sky Blues for the next two-and-a-half years.

The Academy graduate has been in terrific form this season, having played in every match so far and formed an effective partnership with John Fleck in central midfield.

Coventry-born Thomas broke into the City first team in the 2010/11 season, coming off the bench in the 2-1 win over Crystal Palace in the FA Cup in January 2011.

The midfielder has been pivotal part of Steven Pressley's side this season and he is delighted to seal his future at the club.

Thomas said: "I am really pleased to finally get it done. They have been negiotating the new deal for a while as my current deal was up in the summer so delighted to know my future is here.

"It is great to know Callum (Wilson) and Jordan (Clarke) have also signed their deals as we were all up in the summer. We are all really close on and off the pitch so it is really good that we have all signed.

"I also think it is really good for the City and the Academy as we have got a lot of players from Coventry in the squad. Sometimes, you see other clubs and it is different there. We have grown up in the City, we know the people of the City so we know what the club means to the City.

"From that, we want to do well for the club and the shirt we put on as we know better than most what it represents. If you don't play for your local club, maybe it doesn't mean as much.

"I think that is why we have such a good team spirit at the moment. We have got some great home-grown players and then the other players have brought into what the club is all about."

Thomas has only got the one City goal to his name so far, scoring during the 2011/12 season at Blackpool in a 2-1 defeat in January.

With the 2013/14 season being the fourth season Thomas has had an involvement in City's first team, he says he has never enjoyed his football this much.

He added: "This season has been brilliant so far. It is easily the most I have enjoyed my football and now it is all about keeping it up.

"We have had a great start to the season but we must build on it. Hopefully it is the start of better things to come.

"The gaffer wants us to play a certain way so it's good because whoever comes into the side, knows what is expected of them and we all seem to be finding those levels.

"I think we have really tried to give something back to the fans this season and they have been right behind us. We haven't done nothing yet so we just have to keep winning games now."
