Coventry City interim manager Neil MacFarlane sang the praises of the Sky Blues as City won 2-1 against MK Dons at the Ricoh Arena.
Goals from Chris Stokes and Dominic Samuel put City two goals up. Dominic Powell got a reply and attacked in waves in the second half, but the Sky Blues held on for what MacFarlane called 'an important result.'
"It's a massive three points for this football club," he said.
"That one was for the gaffer.
"We got all the breaks today and that is something that had been missing in previous games. To a man they were defensively brilliant. They threw themselves in front of everything all game, that's what I asked them to do monday, give their all.
"MK Dons are a great side, they had us on the back foot for the whole of the second half but I could not ask for any more from the team, those three points get us out of the bottom four and hopefully it's the start of something.
"It's been a tough week for everyone and me personally with what happened, but all the staff have been fantastic. Dave (Hockaday) and Oggy have mucked in too and to get this three points is great and rewards all the hard work.
"I actually think we played better last weekend against Sheffield United but we got the breaks today which we didn't then. I'm delighted with this afternoon's work."
The Scot singled out Lee Burge for praise, who came into the side after last weekend and made a 'man of the match' display according to the interim manager.
He continued: "Lee Burge was fantastic. He had a hard time earlier on in the season but he's responded magnificently. He's come back into the side and I have no doubt that he was man of the match today.
"He made two or three crucial stops and claimed everything in the air superbly.
"But everyone to a man gave their all and we need to do the same Tuesday against Barnsley."
