'I was desperate for the hat-trick'

17 December 2012

David McGoldrick was hoping to claim his first City hat-trick in Doncaster...

Coventry City striker David McGoldrick was disappointed not to claim a hat-trick against Doncaster Rovers in the 4-1 win.

The Forest loanee has now notched up 17 goals whilst on loan at the Sky Blues with his impressive brace at the Keepmoat Stadium helping City claim one of their most impressive wins of the season.

The 24-year old hoped he could claim his hat-trick at the Keepmoat, but says he is really enjoying his football at Coventry.

McGoldrick said: “I am really looking forward to each game at the moment and the side are full of confidence which always helps me out.

“I was dying for that hat-trick but it wasn’t to be. I haven’t scored one for the club yet and I missed a couple of chances to do that.

“Most importantly though, everyone is chipping in at the moment. Adam Barton and Franck (Moussa) scored two great goals and it is important that it isn’t just me getting the goals.

“It seemed like there was only going to be one winner today as we were that good. It was possibly our best performance of the season and hopefully we can keep this up.”

Coventry are now facing a busy Christmas period with three games before the end of the month and the New Years Day fixture against Shrewsbury Town at the Ricoh Arena.

With Coventry climbing the League One table to 13th position, McGoldrick believes City couldn’t be facing the busy period at a better time.

He added: “We have got games coming up thick and fast, and we need to be ready for that. It is always a crucial time in the season and if a side has a good Christmas, it can define a season.

“We have to make sure we keep ourselves fit and fresh. We have to be able to go into every game with that hunger for all three points and we got a few journeys over Christmas as well so it will be difficult.

“We have got a good squad so there might need to be a few players to come in and out of the side. The gaffer is doing the right things at the moment to get us the points and we all believe in him.

“We have to take it one game at a time and make sure we are in the right frame of mind to get maximum points.”
