The Everton loanee was voted as the Young Player of the Year by the Coventry City coaching staff...

Matthew Pennington has claimed the Young Player of the Year award for the 2014/15 League One season.

The 20-year old Everton loanee joined the club on loan in November 2014 and made 25 appearances for the Sky Blues after having his loan extended until the end of the season.

Unfortunately, Pennington sustained an ankle injury in the 3-1 defeat to Crewe Alexandra meaning he missed the final day of the season win against Crawley Town.

The young player of the year award is voted for by the coaching staff and manager Tony Mowbray, Neil MacFarlane, Dave Hockaday and Steve Ogrizovic all voted for the central defender.

Pennington said: "I was delighted to find out that I won Young Player of the Year as it is always nice to be recognised for your efforts and hard work.

"It is a great award. During my time at City, I channeled all my efforts onto the pitch and to cap off my time at the club with this award is really pleasing.

"To win the award as a loan player whilst there are so many talented young players at the club; it is a great honour."
