Sky Blues run out comfortable winners as they kick off round of pre-season tour friendlies

Coventry City kicked off their schedule of pre-season tour friendlies with a dominant 6-0 win over TSV Wachtendonk.

Five of City's goals came in the first half courtesy of a brace from Franck Moussa and strikes from Carl Baker, Leon Lobjoit and Leon Clarke before boss Steven Pressley made wholesale changes at half time with Ben Maund grabbing a late sixth.

Clarke very nearly put the Sky Blues infront after just a minute when a deep cross from Baker picked out the striker to loop a header over TSV 'keeper Yannick Berthelsen only for the goal to be ruled out for offside.

Clarke also had a shout for a penalty turned down when Bethelsen's heavy touch took the ball away from him, leading to a clash with Clarke which the referee waved away.

City were ahead after six minutes though when a superb crossfield ball from Adam Barton picked out Cyrus Christie on the right flank, the full back playing in Baker to round his man and to get to the byline and beat one more before cutting back for Lobjoit to sweep home.

It was then two after 25 minutes of play which City dominated, a through ball finding Clarke to skips round his marker and then play a short ball to Moussa who finsihed inside the near post from ten yards.

Ten minutes before the break the Sky Blues went and got another, this time from Carl Baker who finished a tidy and swift passage of play involving half the team.

Christie was played down the right by Barton and whipped in a deep cross which Leon Lobjoit headed back into the path of Barton. The midfielder then laid off a ball for Baker who beat two men before firing into the bottom corner from the edge of the area.

As the half steadily came to close Leon Clarke added a fourth when he picked up a ball from advanced Aaron Phillips whose short ball picked out the striker to apply a neat finish from 12 yards.

Moussa then rounded off the scoring a minute before the break when another deep cross from Christie picked out Clarke to head into the path of his strike partner to half volley a finish from near the penalty spot.

The Sky Blues came out for the second half a much changed side with Pressley making seven changes, taking off Joe Murphy, Jordan and Leon Clarke, Baker, Moussa, Christie and Conor Thomas for Lee Burge, Blair Adams, John Fleck, Billy Daniels, Louis Garner, Maund and Callum Wilson.

City still controlled proceedings though and Maund could have made it six for City seven minutes after the restart when good work down the right from Phillips allowed him to play Maund through only for him to be denied by a point blank save from the 'keeper.

Maund went close again six minutes later when his cross from the right floated over the 'keeper and went narrowly the wrong side of the far post.

Lobjoit had a gilt-edged chance for his second on the hour when Wilson went racing down the right and whipped a low ball across the area which evaded Maund but found Lobjoit who could only steer wide from four yards.

Maund went close yet again on 71 minutes when he got around his marker and rattled the far post with a half volley.

He got the goal he deserved with three minutes to go though when a ball over the top picked out Wilson whose shot was spilled by the 'keeper, allowing Maund to smash home.

Team: Murphy (Burge 45), Christie (Daniels 45), Haynes, Phillips, J Clarke (Adams 45), Baker (Fleck 45), Thomas Garner 45), Lobjoit, Barton, Moussa (Maund 45), L Clarke (Wilson 45)
