Coventry City

Fleetwood snatched the win with goals from David Ball and Antoni Sarcevic just moments after the Sky Blues made wholesale changes.

The home side enjoyed more of the first half chances as the Sky Blues concentrated on developing their passing approach but it was City who went closest to getting the opener courtesy of trialist Mathieu Manset.

The game was 18 minutes old when Fleetwood carved out the first opportunity of the game, Antoni Sarcevic firing a half volley from edge of the area that was comfortably collected by Joe Murphy.

Manset was a whisker away three minutes later though when a great link up down the right between Aaron Phillips and Louis Garner allowed the latter to burst the wing and cut inside his man and play back a short cross for Manset who stabbed his effort just wide under pressure from six yards.

Alan Goodall then went equally close on 27 minutes when he dispossessed Blair Adams on the right and quickly flashed a hot across goal and just wide of the far post.

City 'keeper Murphy was then adjudged to have handled a ball outside the area two minutes later although referee Ben Toner allowed him to escape with a card.

Murphy had to be on his toes for the resulting free kick as Stephen Schumacher flashed a shot across goal and just wide.

David Ball then went close with ten minutes of the half to go after being tee'd up by Evans, sending his effort from 20 yards just wide.

Manset had the best chance of the half though with four minutes to go, battling his way through two challenges and shooting from 25 yards, his effort requiring Scott Davies to tip the ball onto the post and out for a corner. 

The trialist also wasted no time in getting out of the blocks after the restart with a stinging effort from 20 yards which Brown had to beat away.

Garner then went close on 51 minutes after being presented with a loose ball from 25 yards which was begging to be hit, the young midfielder whistling one past the post with Brown rooted to the spot.

Matty Blair gave City a scare two minutes before the hour though after City failed to deal with a ball in their 18-yard box, the former York man picking up the ball and running wide but pulling an effort across the face of goal and just wide of the far post.

City went close again on 73 minutes when a great floated cross from Garner picked out Moussa just inside the 18-yard box to thrash a well-timed volley just over the bar.

There was a scare at the other end though just a minute later when a deep cross picked out substitute Ryan Crowther at the back post only for a last ditch challenge from Willis to deny him before he had a chance to pull the trigger.

Fleetwood were ahead nine minutes from time though when fellow sub Junior Brown got down the right and pulled back a powerful ball which ricocheted off Ball's boot and flew past Murphy.

They then got a second three minutes later when a cross-goal header from sub Jon Parkin forced a superb save out of Murphy with Sarcevic tapping home the loose ball from three yards.
