MATCH REPORT: Sheffield Wednesday U21 3-1 Coventry City U21 - Tudgay strike not enough against Wednesday

16 December 2014

Two first-half goals from Jacques Maghoma and a second-half strike from Paul Corry sealed the win for Wednesday...

Coventry City Under-21s suffered a 3-1 defeat against Sheffield Wednesday despite a second-half Marcus Tudgay strike.

Two first half goals were enough to give the hosts the three points as City were much better in the second-half.

The opener came on 23 minutes when Jacques Maghoma picked the ball up inside the area, beat two player before hitting a left-footed effort into the bottom left-hand corner from ten yards.

City were on the back-foot for most of the half and Wednesday had the second their play merited seven minutes later. After some great build up play with Paul Corry, Maghoma was free in the area to tap in his and Wednesday's second from six-yards.

Jacob Whitmore came on for Jordan Shipley just before the break and City came out in the second-half with much more vigour and quality.

They were rewarded for their second-half improvements with a brilliant goal, when George Thomas picked the ball up in his own half and he excellently carried the ball deep into opposition territory, before passing to Marcus Tudgay who sumptuously curled the ball into the right hand corner from 20-yards.

City couldn't build on that though and conceded the third, when Emmanuel Dieseruvwe's effort from just outside the box was deflected narrowly past Burge to the bottom left corner.

Under-18s scholars Bassala Sambou and Callum Maycock both came on for Conor Thomas and Ryan Haynes in the last ten minutes, but that was the last real action as City were unfortunate in defeat.
