The Sky Blues couldn't make their first-half chances pay in 0-0 draw with Nuneaton...

Coventry City started their pre-season campaign with a 0-0 draw against Nuneaton Town at Liberty Way.

The Sky Blues had chances aplenty in the first-half, with James Maddison hitting the crossbar, but not making them pay cost City after a quiet second-half.

The first real openings fell to the Sky Blues, who had three chances to score in a matter of seconds after 14 minutes.

Jim O'Brien picked the ball up in the area but was denied by a great block, before the rebound fell to Maddison who struck a firm effort which was well saved by Rowley. Rowley's parry then fell to A Trialist who struck a firm effort but Rowley was quick on his feet to deny a goal at the near-post.

Rowley was called into action once more just after the half-hour mark, when A Trialist shifted the ball onto his left foot in the area and curled a beautiful effort which the 'keeper did well to save to his right.

Maddison then went the closest to a goal after he won a free-kick on the edge of the area. The 18-year old dusted himself down to take it but rattled the underside of the bar, the ball did look over the line but that was the last real chance before the interval.

City then changed their entire XI for the second-half and introduced new signings Romain Vincelot and Sam Ricketts.

Their introduction couldn't help it from being a quiet opening to the second-half, but Ivor Lawton had a great chance just after the hour when his sidefoot in the are forced Max Fondop into a good stop.

A sour note of the second-half came when Conor Thomas clashed heads nastily with Cian Harries, both players seemed OK but Thomas was replaced by Ben Stevenson.

City were comfortable but couldn't force an opening as the game ended in a stalemate.
