MATCH REPORT: Notts County 0-0 Coventry City - Sky Blues take a crucial point on Bank Holiday Monday

6 April 2015

The Sky Blues recorded their fourth successive away game without defeat in a tense 0-0 draw...

Coventry City took a point from Meadow Lane in a scrappy 0-0 draw against Notts County.

The Sky Blues didn't create many clear cut chances but were more than worthy of a point in the crucial relegation six-pointer.

The first real opening fell to the hosts, when Hayden Mullins hit a good effort from 20-yards which Lee Burge did well to palm wide for a corner.

City did build the pressure as ten minutes before half-time, they had three corners in a row, but couldn't capitalise on good deliveries from Grant Ward.

The Sky Blues didn't provide too many sparks to a first-half that had very little action.

City did begin the second-half in a slightly better vein, as Adam Barton had a great chance on the edge of the box as he picked up the ball in space but skewed a shot straight at Roy Carroll.

The visitors began to build momentum, but County should have taken the lead from a set-play, as Burge came to claim it looked as though he was fouled, but the referee allowed the play to go on and Nicky Wroe had a header at the back-post cleared off the lined by Chris Stokes.

County then went even closer from another corner, as Garry Thompson flicked the ball against the right-hand post but no County player was there for the rebound.

James Maddison then came on for Jackson and shortly after City had a penalty appeal turned down, as Ward whipped in a free-kick and it looked like Frank Nouble was being dragged to the floor, but the referee pointed for a goal-kick despite stern City protests.

Jordan Willis was then inches away from giving City the lead as his cross from the right swerved and Carroll had to be at full stretch to tip it narrowly over.

The game became tense towards the latter stages as both teams appreciated the significance of the points but City almost won it with the last touch of the game, when Ward whipped a superb delivery to the back-post where Barton met it with a firm header, but Carroll made a wonderful save to keep the scores level at the death.

That was the last action as City recorded their fourth away game without defeat.
