MATCH REPORT: Nottingham Forest U21s 2-1 Coventry City U21s - Jack Finch's strike not enough for unlucky City

23 February 2015

The Sky Blues failed to claim back-to-back wins as two first-half goals were enough for the home side to claim victory...

Coventry City Under-21s were unlucky to suffer defeat at Nottingham Forest, despite a dominant performance.

The home side ran into a two-goal by the break as City failed to take their chances throughout the first 45 minutes. Jack Finch did pull one goal back for City but Dave Hockaday's side couldn't find the equaliser.

The Sky Blues started well and should have found themselves ahead early on. In just the fourth minute, Jackson was slid through after great combination work by Blair Turgott and Ryan Haynes, but his effort was blocked.

Nine minutes later, Jackson and Turgott combined again as the former West Ham winger volleyed towards goal but it was well saved by Forest keeper Dimitar Evtimov.

City were unable to find the opener as George Thomas smashed over in the 18th minute after good work from Turgott and Forest took the lead just after the half-hour.

Jack Kelly found a cross which Tyler Walker tapped home from six yards to put the home side into an undeserved lead.

After a brief pause in play due to hail, Forest doubled City's first-half misery before the break when Jorge Grant found the bottom corner three minutes from the break.

The Sky Blues continued on the front foot as the trialist had a certain goal blocked on the line in the 51st minute before Jackson went close two minutes with a left-footed effort.

City got the goal they deserved with just over half-an-hour remaining. Trialist combined with Thomas on the left who found in the middle to tuck home a wonderful flowing move to put Hockaday's side back in the game.

The Sky Blues pushed everything forward for an equaliser and almost found it 12 minutes from time when Turgott's right-sided corner caused mayhem in the area and a goal-mouth scramble was eventually cleared as City fail to claim back-to-back wins.
