City suffered a 3-0 defeat at the Tractor Boys' training ground as Conor Thomas returns to action from head injury...

A young Coventry City Under-21s side were beaten 3-0 by Ipswich at the Tractor Boys' training ground.

Conor Thomas returned from injury and played 45 minutes alongside stopper Reice Charles-Cook.

There was nothing that Charles-Cook could do about the opening goal after just three minutes, when Cameron Stewart picked the ball up from 25-yards and was able to fire a beautiful effort into the top corner from 25-yards.

City should have been level moments later when Devon Kelly-Evans raced through one-on-one after an excellent press, but the midfielder blazed his effort over inside the area.

Town were 2-0 up on 26 minutes when James Alabi raced onto a long ball, rounded Charles-Cook and slotted the ball into the empty net.

The third came with ten minutes of the first-half remaining, when Johnny Parr hit a firm effort from the edge of the box which found the bottom left corner.

At the break, Thomas was replaced by Darragh Leahy and the Sky Blues improved defensively in the second 45.

There were few chances created in the second-half, as the Trialist had an effort well saved late on and Jordan Shipley narrowly missed Leahy's cross at the back post.

Jak Hickman then came on for his first ever City Under-21s appearance but the Sky Blues weren't able to mount a comeback and were beaten by an experienced Ipswich Under-21s side.
