MATCH REPORT: Coventry City 2-2 Charlton Athletic - Reda Johnson returns as Charlton hang on for a point

2 April 2015

The City defender continued his recovery from a groin injury with 45 minutes against Charlton Athletic at Ryton training ground...

Coventry City Under-21s were held at home to Charlton Athletic as Reda Johnson completed 45 minutes on his injury comeback.

Johnson, who last appeared in the 2-2 draw against Rochdale in January, played 45 minutes for the Under-21s as he continues his recovery from a groin injury.

The Sky Blues dominated the vast majority of the opening stages but fell behind in the just past the half-hour thanks to a Karlan Ahearne-Grant penalty.

Dave Hockaday's side responded well and drew themselves level two minutes from the break when Conor Thomas' cross found Ryan Haynes at the back-post to half-volley home.

There must have been something in the half-time tea as the game saw a crazy opening five minutes in the second-half.

Mikhail Kennedy put Charlton Athletic ahead with a low strike in the 47th minute before Regan Charles-Cook fouled James Maddison in the area and was sent off just two minutes later.

James Maddison stepped up and slotted home the penalty for the Sky Blues before he was taken off on the hour as he also continues his recovery from injury.

The Sky Blues mounted a lot of pressure throughout the second-half but Jason Euell's side defended well to earn a point at Ryton training ground.
