MATCH REPORT: Coventry City 1-1 Barnsley - Ben Stevenson nets for City as they concede controversial equaliser

1 December 2014

Stevenson's goal gave the young Sky Blues the lead but a late equaliser leaves the Sky Blues third in the table...

Coventry City Under-18’s conceded a late goal as they drew 1-1 with Barnsley Under-18’s at the Alan Higgs Centre on Saturday.

The young Sky Blues started brightly and took the lead on the half-hour mark, when Ben Stevenson picked the ball up just inside the Tykes’ half and beat two players as he drove to the edge of the box, before hitting a beautiful left-footed strike into the bottom right-hand corner.

But City conceded a controversial equaliser with five minutes to go, when Kyle Barnett was adjudged to have pushed a Barnsley player from a corner and the referee pointed to the spot. The visitor's left-back stepped up and sent Jake Richards the wrong way to level the score.

The result leaves the City Under-18's third in the table, just two points off first placed Birmingham City.

Coventry City: Richards; Whitmore, Bromley, Barnett, Harries; Spence, Stevenson, Maycock, Dev Kelly-Evans; Shipley (Albini 61), Thomas (Smith 70.)

Unused subs: Addai, Camwell, Ford.
