MATCH REPORT: Bristol City 0-0 Coventry City - Sky Blues take a great point away from the League One Champions

Coventry City took a well earned point from Ashton Gate as they drew 0-0 with Bristol City.

The Sky Blues had chances to win the game and were solid at the back as they moved five points away from the relegation zone.

Frank Nouble went close after three minutes as he smashed a shot narrowly over from 20-yards, before Bristol City should have taken the lead when Derrick Williams headed over from a corner when he was unmarked from eight-yards.

John Fleck then provoked the game's first save from Frankie Fielding as he hit a sweet half-volley from 20-yards which was well parried. Adam Barton reached the rebound inside the area but his shot was well blocked by Williams.

Grant Ward then went the closest either side would in the first-half as he hit an excellent left-footed effort from 25-yards which flew inches wide of the left-post.

City started the second-half solidly too and looked comfortable in the opening exchanges, but the hosts had an  excellent chance when Luke Ayling's cross from the right was narrowly missed by Aaron Wilbraham at the back-post. The ball eventually fell to Kieran Agard but he sliced an effort well wide when well placed in the area.

Luke Freeman should have scored too on the break as Agard surged down the left-hand side and found Freeman who lashed a volley wide from eight-yards.

The Sky Blues had a wonderful chance when substitute James Maddison played a wonderful ball through to his fellow sub Sanmi Odelusi and he raced through the middle one-on-one. Nick Proschwitz had made a great run and Odelusi should have passed to the German striker who would have had a clear run on goal, but the winger went alone and forced a comfortable save from Frank Fielding in the area.

Proschwitz then almost won the game for City in the 90th minute when he blasted an effort on the turn in the area inches wide of the right-post. But the Sky Blues were more than worthy of an excellent clean sheet and a point against the Robins who were crowned League One champions with a point.
