MATCH REPORT: Barnsley 0-2 Coventry City - Under 21s record deserved win as Trialist nets a brace

19 March 2015

The Trialist netted twice from two Blair Turgott assists in the 2-0 victory in Barnsley...

Coventry City Under-21s recorded a comfortable 2-0 win over Barnsley at the Tykes' training complex.

A Trialist scored a brace in the second-half to give the 21s all three points in blustery conditions in Barnsley.

The Sky Blues started the livelier and almost had the lead after eight minutes, when Blair Turgott picked the ball up outside the area and hit a great strike which whizzed narrowly wide.

City had most of the play in the first-half but didn't create anything else clear cut, but their dominance continued into the second-half, where they were rewarded with the opener just six minutes after the interval.

After the referee awarded a free-kick to the Sky Blues on the right-hand side, Turgott whipped a great ball in which found Trialist in the area and he headed in to give the visitors the advantage.

City had to dig in for a small spell but had the second on 68 minutes, when Turgott, who was excellent throughout, played an inch perfect through ball to the same Trialist and he slotted the ball in calmly from the edge of the box.

That was the last real action from an encounter where the Sky Blues deservedly took all three points. The Under-21s' next fixture will be on Monday against Milwall at Nuneaton Town, subject to change.
