Coventry City debutants Dominic Samuel and Sanmi Odelusi both scored as the Sky Blues drew 2-2 with Rochdale at the Ricoh Arena.

The loan duo both netted in the first half but it was only enough for a point against the play-off candidates.

The opener came from Samuel on 23 minutes, after some excellent work from Frank Nouble to win the ball back on the half-way line he fed Jim O'Brien, who had his shot saved by the keeper. But the rebound fell to the Reading loanee who showed composure to side foot into the top corner from the edge of the area.

Dale had the equaliser ten minutes later though as Callum Camps curled in a wonderful shot from 20-yards right into the bottom corner.

But City restored their goal advantage when fellow loanee Odelusi picked the ball up 20-yards out and it was his turn to curl a magestic effort into the bottom right corner.

That was the last action of the first-half and Rochdale came out better in the second, and had the equaliser when Calvin Andrew powered in a header after an initial flick on from a corner.

City continued to press and Samuel went close to a second, but he placed his shot over from inside the area after Odelusi and Nouble combined well.

Aaron Martin almost headed the hosts in front with five minutes to play as he met O'Brien's corner but Joshua Lillis did well to parry it away.

But that was it as City couldn't find the winner at the Ricoh Arena.
