Coventry City are scrapping the match-day price increase on tickets – starting with this weekend’s game against Bristol City – to make it cheaper to ‘walk-up’ and cheer on Steven Pressley’s side.

The club has also held talks with senior staff at the Ricoh Arena which has resulted in a 50p cut in the price of beer at outlets around the ground.

Chief executive Steve Waggott said: “We are committed to making football more affordable for our supporters and this is a step along that path.

“The match-day price increase had been in place to encourage more supporters to buy in advance but we have taken on board feedback from our fans – through the Supporters’ Consultative Group and other bodies – and we have decided to remove the increase.

“The price of beer was also raised at the most recent SCG meeting and we are pleased to say that, with the agreement of ACL, that it is being reduced by 50p.

“The price of football in general has been in the news this week and, as a club, we are very keen to find ways to make attending our matches more affordable for supporters.

“We’ve done a great deal already. Our Junior Sky Blues who are under-12 can attend for free or sign up for a free Season Ticket in the Family Zone when they are accompanied by an adult, and our adult Season Tickets and match packages dramatically reduce the ‘per-game’ price of watching Steven Pressley’s side.

“But this is an issue we are going to continue to look at because football is about the supporters and should be accessible to as many people as possible.”

Adult tickets in the Family Zone are £18, concessions are £13, juniors are £9, JSBs over-12 are £5 and JSBs under-12 are free.

In the Standard Zone, adult tickets are £22, concessions are £15, juniors are £11, JSBs over-12 are £7 and JSBs under-12 are £3.
