The Sky Blues Development Squad coach believes the performance against Barnsley in the Under-21s' 1-0 defeat wasn't good enough...

Coventry City Development Squad coach Lee Glover called the performance against Barnsley yesterday "out of character."

The Sky Blues Under-21s were beaten 1-0 by Barnsley as the visiting Tykes dominated, with George Maris' second-half strike the difference.

Glover believed the Sky Blues didn't show enough to win the game and believes

"It probably was out of character," Glover said.

"It doesn't help that we had injuries and players played through knocks. That's no excuse though and some of the players need to stand up and maybe individuals need to look at themselves too.

"We didn't pass the ball quick enough, there was no aggression on or off the ball, it was what I call academy football, if you play academy football you'll never bridge the gap between men's football.

"I'm very disappointed because I don't think we did the things we work on or that we spoke about before the game.

"I will have a team meeting today and I'll also meet the players individually - they need to know where they stand at getting a contract, everybody will know exactly where they stand and they can build on that.

"My job is over the next six months to try and help the players get to the standard of a contract."
