Striker says decision to come to Coventry City was an easy one after speaking to gaffer Mark Robins

Striker Leon Clarke says the decision to come to Coventry City was an easy one after speaking to manager Mark Robins.

Clarke joined up with the Sky Blues on trial on Christmas Eve and was declared eligible by the Football League for the home 1-0 New Year's Eve defeat to Shrewsbury Town and although he said the result was disappointing the 27-year-old added he was excited about the potential of the team and what it could achieve.

"Knowing Coventry City were interested and speaking to the manager made it a quick and easy decision for me because he spoke great things about the club and where he wants the team to go," Clarke said.

"The Shrewsbury defeat is disappointing but if we can get back to stringing results together like we have been the league position will take care of itself because the quality of the team is there for everyone to see.

"We created alot of chances but didn't take them and the manager said when you do that you have to grind results out which is what Shrewsbury did."

Clarke is also eligible to play in the FA Cup third round clash with Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane and he said he was looking forward to putting himself in the manager's thoughts for the trip to North London.

"There's no pressure on the team because it's not for points but it's a big game and an exciting game and we want to go there and play with freedom.

"You want to enjoy occasions like that and it will be a great day for the fans because they can just go there and enjoy it. It's exciting."
