Kilbane 'honoured' to be captain

Killer delighted to acccept captain's armband from manager Thorn

Kevin Kilbane has described being made Coventry City captain as a ‘huge honour’.

The Republic of Ireland international has been chosen by manager Andy Thorn to wear the skipper’s armband this season after he joined the club in the summer.

Kilbane, who scored the winning penalty in Tuesday’s Capital One Cup win at Dagenham & Redbridge, said he was proud the be the club’s new captain.

He said: “It’s a huge honour. There were a few candidates in that dressing room but once I was asked I was delighted to accept it on the spot.

“I’ve always liked to think that I have a voice anyway so it’s not going to change the way I am. I will still try to help the lads – particularly the younger lads – in any way I can both on and off the pitch.

“To the outside world it might look like you have more of an influence in the dressing room but I think we want a few leaders in there, again, on and off the pitch.

“I’ve captained teams before but I have never been handed the armband in an official way for the whole season so this is a huge honour for me and I will be very proud to lead the team out.”
