"We deserved to win the game. The performance was much better and we need to go on another run." - Coventry City's Josh McQuoid

The City striker believes the Exeter City in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy represents a great chance to go on a winning run...

Coventry City striker Josh McQuoid has revealed he wanted to take the free-kick instead of Jim O'Brien which would have prevented him scoring in the 2-2 draw against Crawley Town.

The Sky Blues looked set to get back to winning ways after an impressive start with McQuoid and Simeon Jackson putting City into a commending lead.

Before the break, goals from Gwion Edwards and Izale McLeod brought the Red Devils level and City couldn't break the away side down in the second-half.

Having ended a run of three straight defeats, the City striker believes the Sky Blues deserved to win the game against John Gregory's side.

McQuoid said: "Coming in at the end of the game, all the lads are disappointed as it was a game we should have won. We started so well and were playing some great football.

"It was disappointing to let them back in the game so quickly and we spent the majority of the second half in their half of the pitch.

"I thought we played really well today and we just work on a couple of things, and the wins will come. We were just a little unlucky with a few chances.

"It seemed as though it was going to be how many are we going to get but it wasn't to be. We were going for the winner in the second-half but they were parking the bus, defending for their lives."

City welcome Exeter City to the Ricoh Arena on Tuesday night in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy and McQuoid believes it represents a good chance to get back to winning ways.

He added: "I wanted the free-kick myself if I'm honest but luckily it's just came to me in the area and I've been able to put it away.

"I felt I was going to score and I enjoyed playing with Simeon today as you know he is going to be in the right positions.

"We've got the game on Tuesday now to look forward to. We've stopped the run of defeats and now we need to build on this point.

"The performance was much better today and we will be getting back to winning ways soon."
