The City keeper has also revealed the relief the team felt after the final whistle in the 1-1 draw against Wolves...

Coventry City goalkeeper Joe Murphy has admitted he was relieved to see the Sky Blues guarantee safety in League One after the 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Sky Blues matched the League One champions for the vast majority of the game but it looked as though Wolves snatched all three points when Dave Edwards tucked home in the 82nd minute.

However, City showed the courage and belief to respond almost immediately when Danny Batth, under pressure from Nathan Delfouneso, put into his own net after Mark Marshall's outstanding set-piece.

The point mathematically ensures City will be playing League One football next season and Murphy believes the players can be proud of their efforts.

The City keeper said: "The first feeling is relief I suppose and if you were told you were going to be safe at the start of the season, you would have taken that.

"With the deduction and the embargo we started the season with, we can be proud of our efforts. Of course, we went on a great run in the first five months of the season.

"We've got a lot of young boys in there who have played a lot of football this season. It will definitely help them in the future.

"We didn't really want it to go down to the last few games but I think we can now focus on the future."

The Irish keeper has had an outstanding season with the Sky Blues having pulled off many crucial saves throughout the season.

Despite the impressive performances Murphy has produced, he believes he could have conceded less goals this season.

He added: "I think I've conceded far too many goals. The amount we've conceded will always see any team around the relegation zone.

"I've done OK. I'm happy enough with my performance I suppose. I've made some decent saves at crucial points but you can always say you should do better.

"Overall, I'm happy I've missed one league game in three years. I've been consistently fit which is a good record."
