Coventry City Under-18s manager Jason Farndon was pleased with a point against Huddersfield Town last weekend to keep themselves within touching distance of the table toppers.
The Sky Blues now sit five points behind the Terriers with two games in hand after Jordan Shipley's strike earned a 1-1 draw at the Alan Higgs Centre.
Farndon was really pleased with his side's first-half display but admitted that they had to dig in in the second-half to take a share of the spoils.
"In the first-half we were excellent," Farndon said.
"It was some of the best football we've played this season. We lacked a real cutting edge but we had lots of possession which we work on day in and day out.
"At the time we would've looked to have won the game after the first-half performance, but in the second-half they really got at us and we had to work hard for a point. We will take the point as they were dominant in that second 45.
"We showed resilience and mental toughness against Huddersfield, our defenders were throwing themselves into blocks, putting their body on the line and credit to our lads for defending well.
"The performances were excellent, against Birmingham two weeks ago as well as Saturday, so we're showing that we're in decent form but we have to keep it going."
The Under-18s side is also seeing some changes to personnel during January.
Defender Luke Bromley has gone on a work experience loan to Cambridge United, while Farndon is looking to the future by promoting Under-16s players Reece Ford and Dan Smith into the squad.
The manager is hoping to give Ford and Smith some game time as they continue their progress within the Academy.
Farndon said: "We're massively short on size in all of the squads. So we're looking for some of the second years onto the Under-21s to cover all the squads so it's been a tough schedule.
"The first years are going to have to start carrying the torch for a bit, so it's a test for their characters.
"We are looking at the Under-16s and their progression. Dan Smith is a centre-forward and a real goal poacher, he has excellent movement. He's a little like George Thomas but he is more explosive and dynamic than George, and we think George will develop into a number ten. We also have Reece Ford
who is a big centre-back and both should be in with our 18's soon.
"Luke has gone out on loan to get some work experience so that's great for him to get another perspective at League two and above all, get game time. We want to look after him and I've been lucky to bring Reece in where Luke would have played, so there are positives all round as Luke will continue to learn and get game time while Reece can train with us and get some minutes too."
