Coventry City Under-18s coach Jason Farndon has praised his players' response to their first defeat of the season after the 3-1 win over Ipswich Town.

The young Sky Blues continue their run at the top of the Professional Development League 2 North having amassed 20 points in nine games.

Farndon's side sealed their sixth win of the season against the Tractor Boys with goals from Dion Kelly-Evans, Jordan Shipley and Kyle Spence.

The City coach has praised the performance of his young players and the way they took in where they went wrong against Millwall.

Farndon said: "We spoke a lot about character this week and I was delighted to see the response from the players. Ipswich have already proved they're a strong side and we dealt with them brilliantly.

"We sat down with the analyst and found out what didn't go right against Millwall. The good thing was that the players listened to everything we said, took it in and acted on it.

"This week, Kyle Barnett won every single header as well as Cian Harries and Luke Bromley came back into the side as well as Jake Richards whose calm effect on the group definitely helps.

"Three very good goals from the lads as well. I pulled Kyle Spence off at half-time last week as he wasn't playing to his usual standards but he took his goal really well and played more like we expect."

City travel to Nottingham Forest next week who sit in 8th place in the league having claimed eight points after nine games.

Farndon believes it will be a tough game whilst also praising James Maddison's performance against Bristol City at the weekend.

He added: "It will be a tough game next week against Nottingham Forest even though they've had some up and down results.

"They're a good Academy like ourselves though and we'll have to be at our best once again. We'll be watching them in midweek and begin to focus on that later.

"It was great to see James Maddison on for the first team. We won our game so then to go up to the first team game and watch him in action was great.

"I thought he did brilliantly and his pass for the goal was superb. We want to win the game but to see James playing for the first-team is why we're here."
