Coventry City Under-18s coach Jason Farndon believes the 'feel good factor' at the Sky Blues played a significant part in last night's result, as the Sky Blues cruise into the third round.
Farndon's City side recorded a comfortable 2-0 victory over Crewe Alexandra at Nuneaton Town's Liberty Way in the FA Youth Cup.
Bassala Sambou scored both goals in the first-half on a night where City could have scored many more goals with Sambou and Dan Smith guilty of missing second-half chances.
Farndon has praised the quality of the performance but noted the importance of a solid defensively display after the game.
Farndon said: "It was a difficult game on a difficult pitch but with it being a cup game, we're just delighted to get through to the next round.
"We would have liked to have won it a bit more convincingly as we missed quite a few chances in the second-half but it shows we've got more to give.
"We've spoke about the feel good factor at the club and that stretches through, and that is built on a solid defence first and foremost. The back four were solid and that helped the rest of the team play how we like to.
"It's been difficult for the group because we've been quite split up recently due to injuries in the Under-21s but it shows there is a real togetherness in the group."
Farndon went on to praise the efforts of striker Sambou and explained the difference in formation at the start of the game.
He added: "Bassala has been excellent for us and not just contributed with the goals but also his work-rate is brilliant and always gave us an outlet which is important for the side.
"We've not been happy with our wide players recently and we've felt like we've needed to get two strikers on the pitch and increase our threat up front.
"I felt it didn't quite work as the switches in play were really hurting us in the first-half so we switched back to 4-2-3-1 and I think it gave us control of the game.
"At the end of the day, it is a cup competition and we're through to the next round where we can really test ourselves against a category one side in Stoke City."
