"I'm enjoying this season but I'm keeping my feet firmly on the ground. It was a great team performance." - Coventry City's James Maddison

The City midfielder has also praised his Under-18s team-mates after several of them starred in the 2-0 win over QPR at Loftus Road...

Coventry City attacking-midfielder James Maddison has stated he is keeping his feet firmly on the ground after scoring his first goal for Under-21s this season against QPR.

The 17-year old Academy product secured City's first win of the season after his second-half curling effort recorded a 2-0 win at Loftus Road following Ivor Lawton's opener.

Maddison was a substitute for the first-team during the 2-1 defeat to Crewe Alexandra at the weekend, his fourth first-team appearance this season.

The Coventry-born midfielder admitted he is happy with his season so far and praised the team performance at QPR.

Maddison said: "We've been waiting for that first win of the season and we'll all delighted to get it against a strong QPR side.

"We were very good out of possession today and everyone stuck to their roles and responsibilities brilliantly. It was a result which was coming and a result which we deserved.

"I'm very happy with the goal. I've only ever scored one goal for the Under-21s so it is something I'm looking to improve on. Also, it was good to score from open play. I score a lot of set pieces but I want to improve my open play tally.

"I'm enjoying this season but I'm keeping my feet firmly on the ground. When you step up, you don't want to see players go 'big-time' and I'm making sure I work just as hard for the Under-18s as I do any other level."

Under-18s team-mates Cian Harries, Devon Kelly-Evans, Dion Kelly-Evans, George Thomas and Jake Richards all completed 90 minutes for the Under-21s at Loftus Road.

The Under-18s captain Maddison has praised his team-mates' drive and application, and hopes to see them push on into the first-team together.

He added: "Obviously, the Under-18s lost for the first time at the weekend but I'm sure we'll bounce back and it was great to see so many involved tonight.

"We're a very good side and we've had a really good start to the season. One loss won't knock us and we'll go again next week.

"It's great to see us all going up a level at the moment. The aim is to see as many of the Under-18s into the first-team as possible.

"If we keep putting in the performances at Under-21s and Under-18s, it can only improve our chances in the future."
