City secured their survival in SkyBet League One with the 2-1 win over Crawley on Sunday with the 18-year old netting the valuable winner for the Sky Blues.

But Maddison was quick to dismiss any celebrations of staying in League One and maintained that he is happy with his future being with City after he signed a three-year deal back in November.

He said: "I'm happy here, I'm a Coventry City player and if I wasn't happy I wouldn't have signed the three-year deal.

"I'm hoping to breakthrough next season and push for promotion next year.

"Look at the squad of players in the dressing room, we should not be in the position we were in and we should not be celebrating staying in League One. Unfortunately that's football, sometimes it happens but I'm glad we stayed up with a good performance on Sunday."

In front of 1700 Sky Blues fans at the checkatrade.com stadium, Maddison calmly slotted in the winner after a great piece of play from Frank Nouble.

The young midfielder was quick to praise the travelling City fans who he believes helped to make the difference in the crucial relegation clash.

"At first Frank shaped to shoot so I didn't think I was going to get the ball!" Maddison added.

"But Frank has done so well and when it came across to me I never had any doubt I was going to score.

"I was on top of the world to score the winner to keep us in the league, it was a great feeling. We had no doubts as we had the spirit and belief and prepared right with the right mindset.

"The supporters were outstanding, 1700 is great support and that is what it takes. Our away support is massive, when they're chanting your name and getting behind you it gives you that extra one or two percent which can really matter.

"The fans helped make a difference without doubt and hopefully I can score more goals in front of them."
