The Sky Blues Academy graduate also admitted he practices free-kick daily at Ryton and it's playing off...

Coventry City midfielder James Maddison dedicated his goal to the '12th man' following the 1-1 draw against Chesterfield.

The Sky Blues looked like they were on course to suffer defeat at the Proact Stadium after Lee Novak's header in the first-half.

However, the City Academy graduate curled a brilliant free-kick into the top corner with two minutes remaining to make sure City claimed a point.

Maddison admits the squad are disappointed with the squad but has praised the fantastic away support which saw 2660 City fans travel to Derbyshire.

The 19-year old said: "Even though we were losing for a large part of the game, we're really disappointed to only be bringing a point away from the game.

"We controlled the game through the most part and played some good stuff at times. We got the goal in the end but it definitely should have been three points.

"As for the goal, I wasn't letting anyone else take that. I practice my free-kick every day at Ryton so I always look for the top corner and it was a great moment.

"I went to the fans because they were excellent today. They've turned out in their numbers once again and they really were the 12th man for us."

The Sky Blues will travel to Crewe Alexandra in the New Year and Maddison is expecting a tough encounter against the Alex.

He added: "Crewe will be another tough game in a difficult period for all football clubs because of the amount of minutes which have to be played.

"Like we've seen today, when teams are fighting down the bottom, they can be very tough to beat so we'll have to be at our best to get the three points.

"We need to keep picking up points as we want to be in and around it at the top of the table going into the New Year."
