"I was buzzing to get onto the pitch and hopefully I will get a few more chances in the side." - Coventry City midfielder Jack Finch

The City midfielder has also admitted he didn't set a target for first-team appearances this season after signing his first professional contract in the summer...

Coventry City midfielder Jack Finch hopes his second-half performance against Rochdale will create more first-team opportunities during the 2014/15 season.

The City Academy graduate was brought on at the start of the second-half for midfielder John Fleck for his fourth appearance this season.

It was the first time Finch played in the central midfield role, a position he played for the Under-18s, having played in the left centre-back position against Wycombe Wanderers and Cardiff City.

After the 1-0 defeat at Spotland, Finch admitted he was 'buzzing' when manager Steven Pressley brought him on for the second-half.

The 18-year old said: "It was a disappointing result. We've played well in the second-half and created a few chances to get back in the game and if we took them, it would have been a different story.

"When I was told I was coming on, I was buzzing to be honest. To get a chance to play in the midfield was great and I think I did ok.

"A few of my passes didn't reach it's target but I just wanted to go out there and show what I can do and hopefully I did that.

"I almost got on the end of a cross towards the end of the game as I do like to get up and down the pitch as much as possible. Delighted to play a part."

Since signing his first professional contract in the summer with the club, Finch has featured heavily for the Under-21s side this season and could be involved when City Under-21s travel to Colchester United tomorrow.

Having already made four appearances for the club this season, Finch hopes to play as many games as possible.

He added: "I didn't really set a target coming into the side as I always knew it would be difficult to break into the side.

"We've got a really good squad here with a lot of depth and I think we could achieve something this season, even though the result against Rochdale wasn't great.

"I'd like to think I can make more appearances for the side this season and it doesn't really matter where I play to be honest, just to be on the pitch is great.

"The Under-21s have been good to keep me match fit and keep me ready to come into the side. If I play on Tuesday, it is another opportunity to impress."
