"I've got mixed emotions, but it's a proud moment for my family who made the trip up." Coventry City's Ivor Lawton

Lawton made his senior debut for his hometown club and also revealed he was scheduled to take the sixth penalty...

Coventry City's Ivor Lawton admitted he felt "mixed emotions" after he made his senior debut in the penalty defeat to Yeovil Town.

Lawton accomplished his boyhood dream of playing for the Sky Blues first-team as he came on with 15 minutes to go at Huish Park. Lawton has been with the club since the age of nine and has made the long journey through the Academy to finally earn a first-team appearance.

The 19-year old's family were in the crowd to see the midfielder come on for his City bow but Lawton, who grew up in Allesley Park, admitted couldn't enjoy the occasion due to the result.

"I've got mixed emotions to be honest," the Academy graduate said.

"Overall I'm disappointed, at the end of the day I want to win and we lost so I'm disappointed even though it's a proud monment for me and my family.

"Fair play to my family, they made the trip up. My Mum, Dad and Uncle were in the stand, unfortunately my Grandad is in hospital in the moment so I can't wait to show him my shirt.

"I had a couple of nervous touches early on and I felt it was a hard game to come on in, but I'm a bit gutted but proud for my family.

"They'll still be up when I get in and they'll say that they're proud, but it's a weird feeling because we're out of the competition."

Lawton revealed that he was scheduled to be the sixth penalty taker should City have taken the shoot-out that far.

It was a cruel way to lose the game but Lawton is keen for the team to bounce back at Fleetwood on Saturday, and in the long term use that moment as an inspiration to keep proving himself to fight for a place in the starting XI once again.

He continued: "I was due to be number six, I used to take them for the Academy and I fancied one. It would've been nice to get a winning penalty but we need to bounce back now and the lads will want to get back to winning ways against Fleetwood.

"For me personally, I've had a couple of setbacks and some frustrating times. I really get on with the gaffer here and I can't thank him enough for giving me a chance for my hometown club.

"I need to use this moment and work hard, keep proving myself in the 21s and make that next step of a full debut and fighting for a place in the team."
