"James Maddison and Jordan Willis will come fitter than they were before the injury." - Coventry City's Tony Mowbray

Coventry City manager Tony Mowbray will assess the injury situation over the weekend ahead of the Bank Holiday Monday game against Southend United.

The City squad have had two days off this week to help them recover from a tough early-season schedule and were back in training today.

Mowbray revealed Chris Stokes received an injection and he also got the news of James Maddison and Jordan Willis' injury earlier this week.

Whilst he admitted losing the two players was a blow, Mowbray hopes to have everyone else available for selection against the Shrimpers.

The City boss said: "Time will tell how bigger blow it is, but it is a disappointment when you lose players for a sustained period of time.

"We were beginning to look like a settled team and a team where you wouldn't have many changes but that isn't the case now so we've got to deal with it.

"There is no reason that we can't keep finding a performance and keep picking up points as two players don't make a team.

"Chris Stokes had an injection but he should be fine. Everyone else seems fine and we'll assess them over the coming days."

With Maddison and Willis out of action, Mowbray said the pair will be in every day aiming to be fitter than they were before the injury.

He added: "Both of them will be in every day as they've still got work to do. We've got to keep them fit.

"Just because one part of the body is injured doesn't mean the rest of it is injured. We want to stay aerobically fit.

"When you've got short to medium term injuries, the plan is always to get the player back fitter than he was before the injury."
