'I wanted a fresh challenge' - Urquhart

19 September 2013

Stuart Urquhart reveals his delight in signing for Coventry City and is looking forward to stepping up to League One football...

Coventry City's newest recruit Stuart Urquhart believes he is ready to step up to the challenge of League One football.

The 18-year old signed a three-year deal with the club after a compensation package was agreed with Rangers.

Uruqhart has featured in a number of Under-21s matches for City, including keeping a clean sheet against Brighton U21s during the 3-0 win.

The young defender was delighted to agree a deal with the club and he is looking forward to tackling this 'fresh challenge'.

Urquhart said: "I'm absolutely delighted to get signed on here and it is a bit of a relief after quite a long trial.

"I have really enjoyed it here so far and everyone has really welcomed me into the group so I knew it would be a good place to sign.

"I was offered a contract by Rangers but I didn't feel as though I was getting anywhere. I wasn't being pushed enough and I didn't enjoy that towards the end of the season.

"I want a challenge and I am sure this is where I will get it. It is a big aspect of this club that the young players will get a chance if you impress.

"If I did get that chance to play for the first team, I believe I am ready. It will be a big step up so I will have to keep putting the hard work in."

Steven Pressley was alerted to Urquhart's ability whilst managing Falkirk and the City boss has kept tabs on the young defender since.

Urquhart admits he has been keeping an eye on all of Coventry's results this season, just in case Pressley's interest was followed up, and he has been really impressed.

He added: "Last season, I played against Falkirk and he asked me after the game what my situation was next year. He was quite keen to get me down here and it just happened all of a sudden.

"After the manager's initial interest, I have always kept an eye on Coventry's results and it was disappointing to see the side start on minus 10 points.

"But now, I think they are starting to play excellent football and they are absolutely flying at the moment.

"I think I have come to the club at the right time as the club seems to be moving forward this season."
