The Sky Blues loanee wants to help keep the club in the division and improve his game throughout his spell with the club...

Coventry City's new signing Grant Ward was pleased with his Sky Blues debut as the side ran out 3-2 winners against Chesterfield at the Proact Stadium.

Ward was heavily involved in his debut as he deflected in Chesterfield's first goal, but then got the assist for Sanmi Odelusi's goal which gave the Sky Blues the lead.

The Tottenham Hotspur loanee was eager to impress in the game and believed that City were worthy of the three points which keep the club outside of the drop zone.

"I thought it was a good game, a tough game, but we got the three points and we're all pleased in the dressing room," Ward said.

"Their first goal came off me, so I was disappointed with that. But I did get the assist for the second. As it came out to me in the area I was going to hit it first time, but I took the touch and then whipped it in so I'm happy that it resulted in a goal.

"You can never say it's sewn up and done, we had to keep going particularly as we conceded the late second. But everyone gave it their all and were rewarded.

"I thought I did OK today, I made a few little errors but it's my first game and I'm only going to get better from here."

Ward has recently returned from a loan spell with Chicago Fire in the MLS and is eager to further his career during his current stint with the Sky Blues.

The midfielder wants to help keep City in League One but also wants to improve his own game in the process.

He continued: "I'm still getting used to everryone, like everyone is with the new manager and we're only going to get better.

"I'm young, I've recently been in the MLS but I wanted to get out again and grabbed this opportunity.

"I bring energy, pace and I'll work hard all day for the team. I want to help keep the team in the division, climb up the table and personally I want to improve my game, get goals and assists and impress people at Tottenham.

"I'm fully committed and excited by the rest of the season."
