Coventry City receives government praise for ticket pricing and backing of the Twenty's Plenty campaign

4 December 2015

Executive Vice Chairman and Managing Director Chris Anderson has said the club will continue to make football more affordable...

Coventry City Football Club drew praise from Tracey Crouch MP, the Minister for Sport, for the club's backing of the 'Twenty's Plenty' campaign.

The Sky Blues have capped adult match tickets at £20 for both home and away supporters for the 2015/16 season in line with the Football Supporters Federation's Twenty's Plenty campaign.

The club has witnessed over 30% increase in attendances this season due to the club's ticket pricing policy and the side's impressive home form this season.

Crouch was asked what discussions Government had had with the FA, Premier League and Football League on the cost to supporters of following football.

Crouch answered: "I have raised the issue of costs to supporters with the football authorities but it is important to remember this is a matter for individual clubs," Crouch says in her written response.

"However I am pleased to hear of some excellent examples of clubs reducing ticket prices such as Coventry City and Doncaster Rovers - in line with the Football Supporters' Federation 'Twenty Plenty' campaign, and that Premier League clubs are also considering an extension of the Away Supporters' Initiative."

Executive Vice Chairman and Managing Director Chris Anderson expressed his delight at the club's efforts being noticed from within the government.

Anderson said: "The club expressed it's commitment to making football more affordable, especially to families, and we're delighted to be recognised for our efforts.

"We have seen a significant increase in attendances this season and whilst the product on the pitch is more attractive than it has been in some time, the pricing structure has been another major factor in this increase and bringing people back to the stadium.

"Recently, our early-bird half-season ticket offer, £163 for 15 matches, was purchased by over 350 supporters and we've also introduced a Christmas Cracker offer for the Oldham Athletic game which sees adults priced at £10 and children at just £1.

"We'll look to continue our commitment to affordable football throughout the 2015/16 season as it's had such a positive impact."
