Defender Dion Kelly-Evans talks about his time so far and hopes for the future with Coventry City here...
Coventry City defender Dion Kelly-Evans spoke exclusively to match-day programme PUSB shortly before the season ended.
Now that the club have confirmed that Kelly-Evans has agreed terms for his professional deal, we thought we'd relive the interview so Sky Blues fans can get an insight into the latest crop of talents emerging from the Academy - taking you back to the defender's interview on his future with the club!
How did you feel when you were offered a pro deal?
Really happy. It’s been tough, particularly when you were told you may not make the cut at the age of 14. But I’ve bounced back and I’m over the moon especially being with my boyhood club.
How long have you been at the club and how did joining the Academy come about?
The same as Dev, I was playing Sunday League and got scouted. I’m grateful for the opportunities that we received year after year, the club kept inviting us back and we kept impressing.
Who have been influential figures on your career?
My mom and dad have sacrificed absolutely everything, they work tirelessly. I want to give them something back, play at the highest level to make their lives easier and to say thank you really. There's nothing better than being able to give back to your parents, they have been massively influential.
How would you describe yourself as a player to fans who maybe don’t know much about you?
I’d say I’m aggressive, I want to play for the shirt, give it my all, wear my heart on my sleeve and show the fans that I’m absolutely dedicated to give everything. I can play across the back-four, right-back is probably my favoured position.
What has your year been like?
It has been really tough, but those weeks and days are what set you up for becoming a professional. I’ve really enjoyed all the challenges we’ve had though and I want to keep working hard.
What are your goals for the upcoming season?
I want to show the gaffer what I’m about and give everything to this football club. I want to challenge for right-back and if I can’t, I’ll challenge for left-back. If not I’ll challenge elsewhere because I am versatile and want to succeed.
