"There is a little bit of momentum and players want to play for the team." - Coventry City's Dave Hockaday

The City coach was also impressed with Devon Kelly-Evans as he played his first match for the Under-21s under Hockaday...

Coventry City professional development coach Dave Hockaday believes he couldn't have asked for anymore from his Under-21s side during the 2-2 draw with Charlton.

Karlan Ahearne-Grant put the away side ahead before Ryan Haynes found the bottom corner on the stroke of half-time to level the time.

Mikhail Kennedy restored Charlton's lead after the break but James Maddison stepped up to slot home from the penalty spot after Regan Charles-Cook was sent off for a last man challenge.

Hockaday has been impressed with what he has seen from his side after picking up four points from two games this week.

The City coach said: "The team are putting a good sequence of results together and beginning to look like a real team. In my seven games here, we've picked up 11 points which is a good return.

"It was a difficult week for the side as we went to Ipswich on Monday and got a great result there but you could tell some of the players had a lot of minutes recently.

"We probably should have picked up the three points today but credit to Charlton, they defended well when they went down to ten men.

"There is a little bit of momentum and players want to play for the team and are enjoying their football. We'll put that one down to experience and move on."

Devon Kelly-Evans played for the Under-21s for the first time under Hockaday and he was impressed with what he saw, and believes the side are beginning to learn how not to lose games.

He added: "Devon Kelly-Evans did well. We wanted him to become a little bit more of a threat in behind them and when he started to do that in the second-half, he gave them problems.

"There was a lot of good performances in a young side today as we've had to use the entire squad this season. It is a hard-working group and I can't ask for any more.

"Charlton are a big, strong and powerful side and it was good to see our players stand up to that test today and get some more minutes under their belt.

"We've now got three Under-21s games left in the season and we're beginning to learn how not to lose games which is good to see."
