"It was nice to come to a nice surface where we could play our game. We need to build on the result." - Coventry City's Danny Swanson

The Sky Blues midfielder has already set his sights on the Walsall game at the Ricoh Arena next week after the victory over the U's...

Coventry City Danny Swanson wants to see the City squad use the 1-0 win over Colchester United as a spring-board to climb up the League One table.

The Sky Blues are now 18th in League One following a narrow victory at the Weston Homes Community Stadium.

Gary Madine's close-range finish in the second-half sealed the points for City who won their first away league game of the season.

Swanson, who came on during the second-half and had a positive impact, was happy with the result and believes he is back to full fitness now following a knee injury.

The City midfielder said: "It's a much better mood than it has been. I think we deserved the win overall. I think it was nice to come to a nice surface where we could play our game.

"We came to get a win, no matter how it came and we got it. I must admit, I've changed my ways, I used to get the huff when I was on the bench.

"I don't do that anymore and make sure the manager knows I want to play. I was happy with my contribution.

"My knee is feeling good and it is the best it has felt for a while. I went out there trying to help the team get three points and I think I did that."

The Sky Blues face Walsall at the Ricoh Arena next week and Swanson believes the Colchester pitch helped City play Steven Pressley's style of football.

He added: "I think we've got a really strong squad here and we shouldn't be in this position. I'm sure today's win will help us."

"We need to build on the result and make sure we're all pulling in one direction. It will be another big game next week.

"The manager brought players in to get down and play football. We've got Gary Madine so we can go route one but it isn't what we are about.

"I've always said since I've came here that the quality of the training and in training is superb and we need to be able to show that.

"It is difficult to play on our home pitch but we're footballers and we're paid to do our jobs so we've got to get on with it. It was a great performance today and we need to continue next week."
